Things you need to know to care for Baby.

DID YOU KNOW? Smoking is not only bad to your body but effects breast-feeding babies too.

Research found that if Mom smoked before breast-feeding, baby’s sleep was disrupted, and Baby slept for a shorter period of time. Ideally, Mom would stop smoking but if she doesn’t, she can time the breast-feeding so that Baby is minimally exposed to the nicotine in the milk. Nicotine gets into the milk within a half-hour of smoking and takes two to three hours to leave the body.

Research studies by Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, study co-authored by Mennella.

Homemade Baby Gift Ideas for Boys and Girls

It may be hard to remember a time when all baby gift sets and clothing items were made by hand, but this certainly was the case not too long ago.  Homemade baby gift ideas have become even more charming in today’s world.  Just as every baby born is unique, homemade items make great newborn baby gifts.  Whether you knit a basic blanket or sew a few more complicated outfits for special occasions, anything you make will be highly appreciated.

Homemade baby clothing is always a popular choice to give as a gift for either a baby shower or to celebrate a birth.  Sweaters, bonnets and onesies that are hand sewn or knitted are guaranteed to be a big hit with the new parents.  Making your own baby clothes is also a great way to save money as pre-made items usually cost much more than if you had made them by hand.  Add your own small touches for added personalization, including the baby’s initials and fine details like bows and lace.  You can go as casual or as dressy you want, however, be sure to use fabrics that are appropriate for baby clothing.

Paper projects including scrapbooking and handmade memory boxes are also popular choices for homemade gifts.  Thanks to the enormous popularity of scrapbooking, it’s easy to find a store near you that offers kits and supplies for creating a unique book.  Memory boxes made by hand are also highly treasured items which can be made to fit the décor of the nursery and can be filled with important mementos to commemorate the baby’s birth.  Parents love having and adding to the boxes, as it gives them an easy place to store all of the baby’s important memories.

No matter what kind of new baby gift you give, when it’s handmade with love by you, it will be greatly treasured by both the parents of the new little bundle of joy.  Take your time and find a project that suits your talents and that shows how much you care.

The Best Baby Gifts for New Moms and Dads

By the time a baby has been born, the parents have usually received piles of onesies, burp clothes and toys from baby showers and family parties.  Many parents appreciate a gift for themselves, including spa gift baskets, restaurant gift cards or Mom and baby gift sets.

Along with the traditional celebratory gifts of flowers and balloons for new Moms and Dads, there are many options that are designed to last for longer than just a few weeks.  Nursery wall art designed for both parents and child is a wonderful way to express your congratulations.  Not only will the parents enjoy seeing it every day, but it can turn into something that the child will treasure as they grow up.

For a smaller way to say congratulations, consider a personalized picture frame or baby scrapbook.  For a frame, insert a picture of the child with the parents, for an important keepsake of the birth.  Baby scrapbooks can be personalized with the child’s name and birth details, like weight and height.  To give the new parents something to get them started, include a few items that you have collected from the bridal shower.  Parents will have a project that they can add to with each milestone that they experience with the new addition to the family.

Spa baskets are something that any tired new parents will appreciate.  Include some soothing candles, bubble bath and lotion for the ultimate spa experience.  Many new parents will also appreciate spa getaway packages for when they are ready to get away for a night.  Offer to watch the baby for the night and let them relax and unwind in a quiet, peaceful setting.

When a baby is born, it’s important to select a gift that really speaks to the parents taste and preferences.  If you have already given a baby shower gift or are shopping for parents who have had children before, giving a gift for just Mom and Dad can be a welcome and appreciated change.

Newborn babies can quickly outgrow these types of items and they will either end up being donated to charity or thrown away.  To find baby gifts that have more meaning, look for alternatives to traditional gifts.

Books are a great gift that can help foster a lifelong love of reading and learning.  Since the joy of reading is learned early on in life, the best way to encourage it in the home is to read to a child from an early age.  Books are also great because you can write a personalized message in it or have it personalized with the child’s name.  Check out your favorite baby store or bookstore for ideas of thoughtful books for newborns.

Music is another great gift that can both soothe and entertain a baby.  From soft lullabies to classical music, exposing a child to music at an early age may encourage music appreciate from the start.  Try picking out a few different types of music, as the more that a child listens to, the more they learn to enjoy it.  Selecting different genres, including both instrumental and vocal pieces will give the child a broad selection to appreciate and enjoy.  Plus, music also is a great tool for parents who need some help calming a difficult child, as soothing music increases relaxation and promotes restful sleep.

For additional ideas, check out your local community center for baby yoga classes or baby massage.  These are great ways for Mom and baby to bond while promoting health and relaxation – two things that every mother can appreciate.  Both baby yoga and infant massage promote healthy movement and healthier attitudes toward relaxation and fitness, making them useful gifts for any new parents.

Cool Baby Gifts that Won’t Break the Bank

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a cool baby gift that will delight both parents and baby.  Even when shopping on a tight budget, you can easily find gifts that are personal, special and thoughtful.  Look for discounts at your favorite stores and websites, and keep an eye out for extra discounts like free shipping to get the most out of your dollar.

Baby clothes make great cheap baby gifts that are also useful.  Every parent can use more onesies, t-shirts and pajamas.  Look for baby gifts online for special discounts or shop the sales at your favorite baby boutique for added savings and you’ll be amazed at how fast you can stretch your gift giving budget.  When buying clothes for a baby, make sure that you select their current size or a size or two bigger, as it’s always safe to buy on the bigger size to ensure that the clothing can be used.

Bibs and booties are also great gifts that don’t cost too much, and are also quite useful as well.  Booties are easily lost in the laundry while many bibs can be soiled in one day.  Having an ample supply of these items lets parents relax and not have to worry about doing more laundry.  Since bibs are meant to get dirty, don’t spend too much on designer options, as these are just a waste of money.  Most stores sell them for a reasonable price, making them easily affordable and designed to fit into most budgets.

Diaper Pins, Photo Frames and More: Where to Find Personalized Baby Gifts

Those looking for something special to add to a baby gift basket or something to give as a gift on its own will find many options with personalized baby gifts.  Delicate diaper pins, sterling silver picture frames and other items can all be personalized, making it easy to find the perfect gift.  For a gift that both Mom and Baby will enjoy for years to come, make it special with personalization.

Personalized baby items have always been popular gift choices.  These days, just about anything can be personalized for baby including luxurious blankets, clothing and even burp clothes.  Stuffed animals are a popular choice for personalized baby gifts, with adorable bunnies and elephants featuring the new arrival’s initials and name.  Made from plush fabrics in either pink or blue, these animals will truly delight the new arrival and will be a special reminder of their birth for the rest of their life.

Clothing items like sweat suits, sweaters and onesies can also be personalized with the new baby’s name and date of birth.  Simple monogram designs on a hip baby sweat suit are fun new choices that any new parents will love.  Look for soft fleece fabrics or velour fabrics for a stylish look, along with high quality stitching and design for the ultimate comfort.  Remember that it’s always best to buy clothing too big rather than too small!  Newborns quickly outgrow clothing during the first several months of their lives, making it difficult to pick out just the right size.  If you are unsure, always buy a larger size than you think the baby wears.  The new parents can always put it away and pull it out once the baby grows into it.

If you are unsure about which items to select, look for a few different items or pick out a baby gift basket.  Include a few personalized items like velvety soft bathrobes or warm layering t-shirts along with some essential supplies, like bottles and socks.  Put all of the items together in an attractive gift bag or basket, and you’ve got a gift that everyone will love.

How to Put Together a Baby Gift Basket

A baby gift basket is a great way to express your joy in the arrival of a new loved one or family member.  While there are many wonderful options for new baby gift baskets that are premade, putting one together yourself is a great way to show how much you care.  Making a basket yourself can also save money, as it’s easier to control the cost when you can shop around for the best deals and purchase your own basket.  Look around at craft stores for the basket and decorative elements like tissue paper and ribbon, and check out your favorite baby store for fun new baby gift basket ideas.  You’ll be amazed at the number of options available when it comes to putting together a great gift basket.

Not sure about what to include in a baby gift basket?  A good rule of thumb is to pick out useful items that are most needed, including diapers, baby blankets, pacifiers, socks and onesies.  You can also include gift cards for the grocery store for formula and other food items.  Specialty items like a fleece baby bathrobe or a special teddy bear are also great to add, as are photo albums or a gift for Mom.

To put your basket together, find a small box that can be set inside the basket to prop the gift items up for the best view.  Next, add any hard items that you have picked out (anything that includes cans, bottles etc., and then add in the softer items.  This can range from anything from blankets to onesies.  Try rolling these items instead of a traditional fold.  Rolling them allows you to arrange them around the more solid items and find a look that you like.

Once you’ve got your basket in place, add a bright ribbon and a few balloons.  Before you know it, you’ll have the perfect baby gift that looks like it was professionally designed, filled with items that you have handpicked for the new little girl, little boy or multiple babies that have come into your life.
